State Employee E-Mails Ordered Turned Over to Spouse
TechnoEsq reports that the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet has been ordered to release e-mails to a man who wants to see messages between his wife and a male co-worker at a state office. According to the post, the wife had admitted having an affair. Her husband wanted to see the messages that she and the co-worker exchanged. TechnoEsq points out that office e-mails are not private, even if you are a state employee.
In a divorce context, work and private e-mails are often important to show bad behavior by one spouse or the other. A spouse should not assume that e-mails sent from and received at work are private and beyond the reach of a creative divorce attorney. If such e-mails exist, it it is likely that the other spouse will be able to get them.
